A Study on the Factors Affecting Korean Women`s Employment Trajectories

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify women¡¯s employment trajectories during 40 years. Data used for this article is the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA). The sample consists of women aged from 45 to 65 years. And this study adopted a Group-based Trajectory analysis method to examine women¡¯s employ trajectories across the period. The results show that Women¡¯s employment trajectories are divided into seven groups and it was named as ¨ç Continuously family work ¨è Simultaneously family and labor market work ¨é Labor market exit after childbirth ¨ê Late entry after childbearing ¨ë Labor market re-exit ¨ì Early entry after childbearing ¨í Continuously labor market work. The results show that the relative composition of the employment trajectory has changed over birth cohorts. Women¡¯s employment patterns has been differentiated and diversified. But continuity of women¡¯s employment patterns has not been improved. The implications of these findings are as follows. First, it is necessary to implement labor market policies for women after considering women¡¯s various employment patterns. In addition, more political concerns should be given on women¡¯s work-family balancing.
